Natal Day

It dawn...
naturally...
ordinarily...
like any other day.

Yet, somehow...
in a minute way...
I sense today...
is unlike any other day.

You are awake...
our coffee you make...
just like the way...
you make it daily.

I took a sip gratefully...
you sip yours, silently...
we look at each other, glumly...
over our cup of steaming coffee.

Slowly, we both smile...
after a short while...
both of us remember...
it is the 20th of September!

Glee replace glum, quickly...
as we both sigh, thoughtfully...
we both realize how lucky...
you are to be fifty!

I Am Afraid

I am afraid...
afraid of the past,
and its unfinished tasks,
...haunting me.

I am afraid...
afraid of the present,
and its wasted moments,
...bothering me

I am afraid...
afraid of the future,
and its unknown challenges,
...worrying me.

I am afraid...
afraid of my fears,
and my lack of trust,
to all those I must.

Yet, I live each day,
in a purpose driven way,
casting my fears aside,
with the courage GOD provides.

Change Has Come

It used to be,
whites only,
no blacks,
if you dont want attacks.

Whites here,
black there,
properly segregated,
confusion avoided.

Times's changed,
since that day,
Martin Luther,
have his say.

Society now is color blind,
everybody's citizenship is now mankind,
no one is now banned,
due to being overly tanned.

Today, blacks play with whites,
whites learn with blacks,
and in the house named white,
now resides a black!
